‘When we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better too.’
We, humans, thrive on growth. By learning, changing and evolving we find happiness and feel our best. But every now and again we tend to feel overwhelmed, uninspired and just done with everything. Getting out of bed in the morning seems to be a huge task and no matter how hard you’re working or trying to keep up with life around you, you feel like you fall behind.
Does this sound familiar? Honey, you’re stuck in a rut.
(Stuck) in a rut
too fixed in one particular type of job, activity, method etc., and needing to change:
A positive thing about this ‘stuck in a rut thing’ is that there is a magic word that covers the entire solution. And that word is CHANGE. You need to change something in your life, your routine and daily habits.
Change you say? Yes. Reset, reboot, restart.
Here’s your guide:
You have to be F***ING HONEST with yourself.
What’s been bugging you? What doesn’t feel right anymore? Have you developed any habits that don’t work for you but instead hold you back? Does that job only bring your mood down? Be real, be true, be honest.
Now it’s time to GET INSPIRED about what you do want. Have you been longing to travel? Is taking an art class or learn a new language something you’ve been wanting to do? What makes you tick? What makes you happy?
Do not only look at your activities but also at your style and the food you’ve been eating. Do you have pieces of clothing that make you feel like you can conquer anything? And has the food you’ve been eating actually been nurturing your body and giving you energy?
A very crucial part of change is to DELETE habits and things that no longer serve you. It can be hard to say goodbye to certain things, especially when it’s something you are very used to. Maybe that major you picked doesn’t really make you happy, so let go of it. That bag of crisps that you snack on way to often can also get out of the house. Throw away the stuff that you have ‘just because’, and have a big clean up. And maybe some people that only take energy from you, instead of giving you energy, no longer need to be such a big part of your life.
The next step is to ADD the things you’ve been wanting. It’s very important to plan fun things that you can look forward to and work towards. So go on that trip, see a concert and meet with your friends.
You might know the things that you want but it’s about actually doing them. We say things to ourselves about why something isn’t possible: ‘It costs too much’, ‘I don’t have any time’, ‘they won’t pick me anyway’. But when it comes down to it, all is possible, it’s all up to you.
So sign up for that class, go out with your friends, have cosy nights just by yourself and go on that date.
Pick yourself up, dust yourself off and start again.
