Opening Letter: Home
I know that you’re gone right now. You’re off somewhere in the south of Europe having all the great adventures you can have with a backpack, and I’m stuck here. Even though it is summer I wish I was where you are, but I just can’t afford it at the moment. So I will be going with my parents to Spain (which I really can’t complain about) and you will be taking the train to the most beautiful places in Europe. Cinque Terre, Rome, Greece. Oh I would love to go to Greece. Send me some pictures will you? And let me know where you are?
I can’t believe I won’t see you and Veerle for more than a month. We are always with the three of us. But it is good practice for after the summer because than we will all be in different countries and at some point maybe even continents. I will be in Spain (again) learning Spanish, drinking Sangria and taking advantage of my blonde hair. After Spain, it is a mystery where I will be. You will be in Utrecht but then do a volunteer project in Indonesia and Veerle will be studying in Maynooth, Ireland for 5 months. How I’m going to miss you guys then! But at the same time, how many adventures we are all going to have. It will be the year of adventures for us. The year of looking for what we want, living our lives while we still can and maybe finding a bit of ourselves in the process. I will be writing it all down and you will write back, won’t you? We will talk about every experience that is worth mentioning and about the people we have met and the things we have come across.
Okay I’m going to wrap it up now. I hope you have lots and lots of fun during interrail. Let me know what is happening! I wish you great adventures and things that go wrong, so you will have to fix them, but at the same time you always have your backpack and that is your best friend (aside from Veerle who, of course, will be with you all the time). So you just follow the sun these weeks.
I love you heaps!
