Reasons to go see LA LA LAND
‘People love what other people are passionate about’ – Mia, LaLaLand
Last week I stumbled upon the trailer of the movie LaLaLand. And I knew I had to see it. The colours, the outline of the story, it all looked awesome. I quickly searched when and where the movie was going to be shown and I went to see it!
LaLaLand is directed by Damien Chazelle and follows a jazz musician, Sebastian, who dreams of opening his own jazzclub and Mia, an aspiring actress. They’re looking to start of their creative careers in the City of Stars, Los Angeles. Both are struggling to make ends meet and they’re faced with the harsh reality of a city know for crushing hopes and breaking hearts. Through a series of fortuitous events they get to know each other and there’s almost an instant spark between the two. They end up falling in love and seem perfect for each other. But chasing your dreams is hard, the competition is real and a tension between ambition and love develops. Love is contingent. Art is commitment. Faith brings them together, but will it survive the hectic Hollywood life full of temptation and disappointment?
LaLaLand is a movie that’s not made very often anymore. It’s said by numerous publishers that it will likely end up between the classics like The Notebook and Titanic. It gives new life to the musical genre and bursts of colour. It’s almost like a fairy-tale, it takes you out of the harshness that the real world sometimes can be.
The movie is not extremely eventful, in the sense that there aren’t a lot of seemingly random things happening, but the meaning behind the movie is wonderful. It’s not being said, but at the end of the movie you can just feel it.
So if you’re not convinced yet, here are a few other reasons why you should go and watch LaLaLand:
1. If you like colorful sun-drenched movies every now and again this is the one for you
2. The music used is beautiful
3. Free jazz, need we say more?
4. The actors, I mean, Ryan Gosling & Emma Stone!
5. It’s a kind movie that’s not made very often anymore
6. Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone both won Best Performance for a Musical at the resent Golden Globes award. And the director won Best Screenplay of 2017!
But if you’re not really into romantic, musical like movies this one isn’t necessarily made for you. Don’t expect to love it if you only enjoy science fiction, thrillers or war- oriented movies. On the other hand, maybe it’ll surprise you and you might fall for it too.
Are you going to see LA LA LAND? And if you already saw it, what do you think about it?
