6 things about 2016
It’s gonna be 2016 in less than 12 hours as I’m writing this. I’m on the train right now, and I want to share my thoughts.
Yesterday I saw a video of 2016 turned into a horror movie, because let’s be real, 2016 wasn’t necessarily the best year. The terrorist attacks, the war in Syria and the American election are just a few of the rather shocking things that took place last year. But it wasn’t all bad, from every experience we learn new things. And even though not everyone had their best year last year, there are always positive things that happened as well. Today I will share a few things that I learned last year and that I’m grateful for!
Starting this blog
One of the things that I’m very happy about is that I started this blog with a very dear friend of mine. We just clicked and everything fell into place very easily. We’ve been writing our blogposts for about half a year now, and it’s definitely something that I want to give a boost next year. Have more people reading and interacting with us and our blog. Cause it’s something that we both love to do!
Sometimes there’s just not enough time in a day for all the things that you would like to do. I definitely learned that it’s important to set boundaries, cause otherwise you won’t ever get any rest. Saying no shows people that you’re serious about the things you do say yes to, and that if you say yes, you fully give yourself and will participate.
Your gut knows
Sometimes you find yourself in a conflict between your brain and your feelings. I definitely learned that your gut usually knows if something is the right thing to do or not. If something makes sense when you would think about it in a down to earth way, but it just doesn’t feel right, it usually isn’t. But don’t mistake this feeling for being nervous, cause life begins where fear ends.
I grew awesome and amazing friendships this year. And that’s one of the things that I’m most grateful for. Friendship is such an important thing and is definitely something you should look for. A friend can make you feel at home, safe and be there when others aren’t. A friend is someone who knows you, someone who doesn’t judge you and someone you can laugh so freaking hard with that you’re afraid you might actually die.
‘Wie liefde zaait, zal liefde oogsten’
‘The one who sows love, will reap love’. This is something my grandmother used to say, and I think that it couldn’t be more true. Kindness is everything. Why wouldn’t you be kind? And being kind and helping others will eventually come back to you.
Life is awesome
There are awesome people out there, amazing experiences, ideas and adventures. Don’t be afraid, being afraid doesn’t make a change. Not for you, not for your friend, not for the world. You can try new things, do some stupid shit, and you will also have successes. After all, you learn the most by just doing.
We wish you all a very Happy New Year and hope to see you again on our blog!
